Ricky Cox is a photographer based in Fukuoka, Japan.

His involvement with photography began with darkroom classes in the late 1970s and has continued, at different intensities, throughout his life. He studied Photo Media at the College of Fine Arts, UNSW, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) in 2001.

During the 1990s, he was involved with the Australian Centre for Photography, initially as a volunteer and later managing the organisation’s early web presence.

Working primarily in photographic series, he is drawn to overlooked places, structures and everyday environments. His work often involves returning to the same locations, observing how they are reshaped by light, weather, seasonal change and human activity. Rather than working within a fixed genre, he allows each body of work to develop through observation and repetition.
